Riverhead is a hamlet located within Suffolk County's Town of Riverhead. In 1792, the town was created when the New York State Legislature divided it from the extant Southold, New York. The Southold land had been bought from the local Native Americans and was divided among settlers in 1742 with an additional portion purchased from Col. William Smith. With no harbor and commerce, the town was separated at the request of its inhabitants and the Legislature passed a bill splitting off this section under the name River Head on March 13, 1792. River Head was named the county seat (called "county town" at the time), and its name was later combined as Riverhead. Riverhead is situated at the mouth of the Peconic River which empties into Peconic Bay and at the intersection where the North and South Forks of Long Island split, Riverhead is the official county seat of Suffolk County. In the 1960s most of the county offices moved to Hauppauge, New York in the more populated western half of the county a move which still spurs attempts for Riverhead to lead the way for the secession of eastern Long Island towns to form Peconic County.
The Atlantis Marine World Aquarium is the famous attraction in town. It blends science and nature with myth to create an informative and entertaining environment for residents and aims to provide an interactive and exciting educational experience. Other attractions include a train museum, the water park Splish Splash, and the Tanger Outlet Mall. Riverhead is also full of Farm Stands where everyone can harvest or just buy apples, berries, melons and peaches, apart from eggplant, cucumber, peas and lettuce. The Hallockville Museum Farm and Folklife Center is a living monument to Long Island�s past and children are the greatest beneficiaries of learning traditional farming methods and cultural expressions of the past. Riverhead is home to many festivals including the Long Island Blues Festival, Garlic Festival, and the Polish Town Street Fair and Polka Festival.

Cataract surgery takes a few minutes, is painless in most cases and our patients return home to the comfort of their home the very same day. We use IV sedation to relax our patients and then numbing eye drops for comfort. Our board certified cataract surgeons specialize in premium implants designed to reduce the need for glasses and contact lenses. We use accommodating implants like the crystalens and have been deemed a national crystalens center of excellence by Bausch and Lomb. We also use multifocal lenses like the restor, rezoom, and tecnis multifocal. These lenses act as bifocals or make a patient able to see far and near without glasses in most cases. We also use the Alcon toric implant that reduces or eliminates astigmatism in most cases.
Recovery from cataract surgery is straightforward in almost all cases. Following surgery, our patients relax and have a bite to eat prior to leaving the surgical center. We tell our patients to relax the day of surgery and start their eye drops right away to help ward off any chance of infection or inflammation. The nice thing about not using an eye patch is that you can start the important postoperative eye drops that same day. For the week after cataract surgery, we have you limit strenuous activity, but by the following week, our patients are back to full activity.
