Northport is a village located in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island, within the Town of Huntington. To the west is the highly sheltered Northport Harbor, to the north is Long Island Sound, and to the east are woods and marshland. The Matinecock Indians were the original inhabitants of the area which is now known as Northport. The former and merged name of the area was Great Cow Harbor due to the cow exchange that occurred there. The Matinecocks called this land "Opcathontyche" which meant "wading place creek". In 1656, the land was sold by Chief Asharoken, head of the Matinecocks, to three Englishmen which it was well suited for farming and pasteurizing grazed cattle around the harbor. During the Revolutionary War, there were 31 families settling and the settlement became known as Red Hook.

Although many people continued calling it Great Cow Harbor, the village was officially known as Red Hook. The village finally became known as Northport in 1837 and was formally incorporated in 1894, the first village to do so in Town of Huntington. The Long Island Lighting Company based in Northport opened the Northport Power Station which is currently known as the largest oil-fired electric generating station on the East coast. Main Street is known for its bucolic main street which still bears trolley rails from a long discontinued streetcar that brought people to the village from the Long Island Rail Road station in East Northport. Main Street ends at the village dock and village green, site of numerous "concerts in the park" on summer evenings. It has a number of fine restaurants and ice cream parlors, antique stores, as well as an old-style barbershop, and other independent retailers. Northport's old world charm and sense of community make it a very desirable residential location in Western Suffolk County with around an hour commute to New York City.

North Shore Eye Care serves the residents of Northport with a variety of concerns including ocular migraines. It is estimated that over 10% of Americans suffer from migraines. Migraines are a common type of headache that generally occurs with other symptoms such as pain, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. Eye symptoms may include; flashes of light and sensitivity to light and sound. We don't know the exact cause of migraines but there are certain factors: family history and genetics, and environmental factors. A typical migraine can be brought on by imbalances in certain chemicals in your brain, such as serotonin. Other likely factors such as stress, hormonal changes, certain foods (caffeine, alcohol, cheese, salty foods, MSG, chocolate), non-balanced diet, certain medications, changes in weather, altitude, and physical exertion.

The most common symptom of ocular migraines is the visual sensation that can give rise to "blurry spell". Early on during an ocular migraine, the patient can experience a visual disturbance in their peripheral vision, usually in the form of a jagged or shimmering light. Within minutes, it can expand and become more central in vision. Consequently, a zigzag pattern can develop, called a scintillating scotoma and travels in and out of the visual field before it disappears, leaving vision clear again.
