Moriches is a hamlet located in Suffolk County, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It is in the southeast section of the Town of Brookhaven. Moriches county seat is Riverhead. The neighborhood has a total area of 2.2 square miles, of which 2.0 square miles of it is land and 0.2 square miles of it is water. Moriches is bordered on the north by the hamlet of Manorville, on the east by the hamlet of Center Moriches, and on the south and west by the hamlet of Mastic. The name Moriches comes from Meritces, a Native American who owned land on Moriches Neck. Moriches was also eventually split into East and Central Moriches

Center Moriches is the location of the historic Masury Estate Ballroom and Terry-Ketcham Inn, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. East Moriches became internationally famous on 17 July 1996 when TWA Flight 800 exploded 8 miles off the coast and fell into the Atlantic Ocean. The U.S. Coast Guard Station, East Moriches, was used by emergency responder. A helipad was constructed at the Station, and the media located their equipment and crews there for breaking news. Today there are parks in Smith Point and Center Moriches, Long Island dedicated to those who died in the crash, and a plaque bearing their names. The Long Island Skydiving Center that is based in East Moriches is among of the best training centers in the country. While boating and fishing are very famous recreational activities, everyone can also visit the Terrell County Park.
