Farmingdale is a village located in Nassau County, Long Island, New York. It is in the Town of Oyster Bay. Farmingdale is also part of the name of associated unincorporated areas outside the village limits. The Long Island Rail Road station is within walking distance from almost anywhere in the village.  On October 18, 1695, an Englishman name Thomas Powell purchased a 15 square mile tract of land from Massapeque Indians including Farmingdale as well as neighboring communities such as Bethpage, Melville, and Plainview.  During that time, he and his family divided the land into lots and started more than a dozen decades of agriculture in the area.  Hardscrabble was the former name of the area and changed it to Farmingdale in 1845. The village became incorporated in 1904. After the World War II, many establishments were constructed and their industrialization boomed. In fact, Farmingdale became a locus for the aircraft industry, notably, Republic Aviation Company.  The American Airpower Museum should figure on the top of the list of any person on a quick visit, for it is so inextricably linked with the history of Farmingdale. The museum is recognized for its collection of authentic World War II artifacts and memorabilia including uniforms of Allied and Axis countries, armament, photographs, weapons, and equipments.

The village is served by Farmingdale School District which includes both parts of Nassau County and Suffolk County that has a total of six schools. The district helps each and every student to find a learning environment that will maximize their potentials. The State University of New York is also located in the area. It is known for their outstanding educational programs.  Farmingdale is the site of Charles Murphy's famous Mile-A-Minute bicycle ride, a publicity stunt in which Murphy tried to keep up with a Long Island Rail Road train and wound up setting a bicycle speed record.  The Adventure Land Amusement Park is also located in Farmingdale and a must for children. Exciting rides, games of skills and delicious treats give kids the time of their lives.

North Shore Eye Care serves the residents of Farmingdale with a variety of concerns including cataract surgery. With the first baby boomers turning 65 this past January Doctors are finding that patients are developing increasing expectations with regards to their cataract surgery.  Once an operation intended to soley restore vision more and more people are looking to achieve spectacle independence.  Modern equipment and microscopes have gone a long way towards making cataract surgery a much safer operation with quick recovery.  Once an operation that required a hospital stay of 3 or more days it is now performed on an outpatient basis with the ability to return to work the very next day.

But doctors are finding that it is not enough to have a completely successful case without complications as more people are looking to go to surgeons who are also comfortable with refractive surgery and North Shore Eye care is one of the facilities that offers this service.  Patients looking to restore their vision can choose from a variety of lenses that will enable them to see both near and far without the use of glasses.  While these lenses are excellent they as well as their patients can be demanding.  For instance if the eyes are still slightly out of focus following surgery patients will justifiably be unhappy since they still may require glasses.    The skilled surgeons at North Shore Eye Care have many tools at their disposal that can adjust for these problems such as lasik surgery as well as the latest diagnostic tools that can accurately predict the required lens power before surgery is performed.
