Coram is a hamlet located within Suffolk County and the Town of Brookhaven. The original name of the town was Wincoram which derives from Indian term for "a passage between hills" or "valley." The land was purchased extremely inexpensive from the Indians and was originally used for cattle pasture by the settlers. The Davis House was the oldest building, and was the main seat of government for Brookhaven Town for over 100 years, from about 1784 to 1885, because of its centralized location. Wagons filled with voters from 10 to 20 miles around gathered each year on the first Tuesday in April for the annual town meeting day. Voting at the house was conducted in the west front room. The upper rooms were used for canvassing votes. The Justices of the Peace acted as inspectors and also canvassers, and many times canvassed their own votes.

The Davis House, built in the 1750s, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 and is the oldest existing structure in Coram. The four-acre property owned by Lester Davis is located at the northeast corner of Middle Country Road and Coram-Mount Sinai Road. The house has been used as a farm, tavern and stagecoach stop, and also as a site for local militia in the War of 1812 which led by Captain Lester Davis. One of the attractions in the area is Diamonds in the Pines, a town park recently developed with funds provided by Avalon Bay Communities which is near Avalon Pines at Pine Road and Route 83. The park has its own football fields, huge playgrounds, public golf course, and club house. In 2004, the Avalon Bay Communities launched the luxury apartment complex Avalon Pines in Coram to serve the growing residential needs of the hamlet. There are also many shops, services and eateries can be found along Middle Country Road and Route 112.

North Shore Eye Care serves the residents of Corum with a variety of concerns including desired laser vision correction. At North Shore Eye Care in Smithtown New York in Long Island, we offer the best in laser vision correction. Our board certified lasik doctors and lasik surgeons have been performing bladeless custom lasik or ilasik for years and have always been in the forefront of laser vision correction. When Dr. Jeffrey Martin and Dr. Larry Zweibel starting doing lasik years ago, the procedure was not yet refined to the degree it is today. Today, in lasik, we make our flaps with Intralase, a blade free laser that makes the most accurate and safest flaps possible. We then do Visx Customvue to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Our Visx laser automatically centers, automatically tracks and uses iris registration for the best results possible. Iris registration is a process that uses the patient's unique iris landmarks to exactly place the laser eye surgery ablation. These custom and bladeless lasik laser eye surgery procedures are enjoyed by our Long Island patients every week.

Some patients do not qualify for custom lasik for a number of reasons. As a matter of fact, about 30 percent of our patients have one of several types of advanced surface ablation. Surface ablation is the same custom laser vision correction without the flap part of the procedure. Patients with advanced surface ablation such as PRK, epilasik, or lasek, patients get the same exact excellent visual result, but do need to wait a bit longer for the final result. There is also more discomfort in the first couple of days healing. Our patients that have thin corneas, irregular corneas, or high prescriptions tend to be better candidates for surface laser vision correction. On your free lasik consultation, we do the appropriate testing including corneal topography, pachymetry and wavefront analysis and then discuss your options with you.
