Cold Spring Harbor Eye CareCataract, Glaucoma, and LASIK surgery in Suffolk County Long Island

Cold Spring Harbor is a hamlet located in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. It is within the Town of Huntington and is near Oyster Bay. In 1650, an Englishman named the area Cold Spring after purchasing some acres of land here from the Matinecock Indians. The tribe lived here for a very long time and once called the area Wawapex which means place of good water. The community was officially named Cold Spring Harbor in 1825 for its freshwater springs running north through the area and into the harbor. In the mid-1800s, Cold Spring Harbor supported a fleet of nine whaling vessels and coastal vessels carrying cargo from Long Island to towns along the Atlantic Coast and Caribbean. The area became one of the Long Island's busiest whaling ports, as well as one of the most popular vacation destination spots in the state of New York.

The area is predominantly residential, with beautiful panoramic views of the Long Island Sound, the coast of Connecticut, and various bays. The LIRR station located approximately 50 miles east of Manhattan, Cold Spring Harbor is only an hour out of New York City on the Long Island North Shore line. The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum are among the attractions in the area. The museum is a great place especially for kids to have fun and to see what the days of whaling were all about. It collects, preserves, and exhibits objects and documents relevant to whaling. Also, the Cold Spring Harbor State Park with hiking trails and bird-watching within 40 acres in the heart of Cold Spring Harbor. Main Street is just the right place to keep you busy for a while with it being lined with unique boutiques, restaurants, and specialty shops.

North Shore Eye Care serves the residents of Cold Spring Harbor with a variety of concerns including LASIK. With lasik, Dr. Martin and Dr. Zweibel do only the best. They perform ilasik in their Smithtown New York office. Ilasik is bladeless custom lasik with iris registration. There is a small flap made in the superficial layers of the cornea. Although this flap can be made with a blade microkeratome, Dr. Martin and Dr. Zweibel make flaps with Intralase, which is a laser that makes the most precise and safest flaps. We then do the laser vision correction part of the laser eye surgery using Visx Customvue technology so that the lasik is completely customized to each patient. Using a Wavemapping Waveprint that automatically centers and tracks the movements of the eye, a patient is assured that they are having the most precise and customized platform available for lasik right here on Long Island. We also use iris registration. Iris registration describes how the laser centers the lasik laser vision correction. The laser uses pinpoint areas of the iris that are unique to each patient and centers the ablation using these pinpoints.

If you have a thin cornea, an irregular cornea, a high prescription or even a very dry eye, some form of surface laser vision correction might be a better option. Surface laser vision correction goes by many names but all are just different subtle technique variations of the same thing. PRK or photorefractive keratectomy, Epi-lasik, and Lasek are popular terms of advanced surface ablation. With these procedures, the final visual result is the same, but healing takes longer and there is usually more discomfort. Again, the final visual result is usually the same between lasik and surface laser vision correction.
