Brentwood Eye CareCataract, Glaucoma and LASIK experts in Long Island New York

Brentwood is a hamlet located in the Town of Islip in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.  Brentwood was formerly known as Modern Times. The Modern Times was a utopian colony which begun on March 21, 1851 founded by Josiah Warren and Stephen Pearl Andrews. The community was based in the idea of “individual sovereignty” meaning it was a politically independent without interference from outside. All products of labor were considered private property and all land was also a private property with the exception of alleys which were initially considered common property but later converted to private property. No system of authority existed in the colony. There were no courts, no jails, and no police; yet, there are no reports of any problem with crime existing there. In recent time, the area is now known as Brentwood with almost all of the original buildings that existed in Modern Times have been destroyed.

Social development gets admirable attention in Brentwood. The Long Island Cares Regional Food Bank is based in Brentwood. It brings resources from all corners together in a bid to serve the underprivileged, abandoned and downtrodden. The State Governor has made an important announcement to invest in housing for senior citizens in a major Brentwood project. Help for the aged speaks volumes for the caring attitude and outlook of the Administration.  It is a home for several campuses of Suffolk Community College and Long Island University. The Brentwood Campus of the Long Island University is a very prestigious school that the campus sited almost 200 acres of greenery and has approximately fourteen hundred undergraduate and graduate students.  Brentwood is also the site of Pilgrim State Hospital that was once called the world's largest mental institution but now known as Pilgrim Psychiatric Center.  Brentwood is also the home to our surgery center where all our cataract and Lasik surgeries are preformed.

North Shore Eye Care serves the residents of Brentwood a variety of concerns including laser vision correction. People have long sought the ability to see without glasses or contact lenses for a long time and as recently as 25 years ago the experts at North Shore Eye Care have been performing corrective surgery.  At that time the procedure in vogue was called radial keratotomy, a procedure popularized by Dr. Fyederov in Russia who has since died in a helicopter accident.  With this procedure diamond blades were utilized to make radial cuts on the cornea.  This surgery was somewhat limited however, in that only small amounts of myopia (nearsightness) was correctable.  When laser vision surgery became F.D.A. approved a decade laser the surgeons at North Shore Eye Care quickly switched to this procedure which is now completely bladeless and is known for its unprecedented accuracy and safety.  It is also an extremey quick procdure with most corrections being completed in less than a minute's time.

This operation appeals to a broad group of people.  Many athletes like its for its precise vision whether it be golf, baseball, or swimming.  It's also appealing to people in certain occupations such as construction workers that often work in dusty conditions.  While contact lenses are an option for many there are a large group of people that simply can't wear lenses.  These may be people who have had previous infections known to be associated with contacts lens wear,  those who have developed allergies to contacts, and those who are uncomfortable putting lenses in their eyes on a daily basis.  For all those who may have an interest in having laser vision surgery popularly known as lasik, PRK, or lasek we at North Shore Eye Care offer complementary lasik evaluations on a daily basis.  Additionally lasik seminars are offered every month.  We look forward to seeing you soon.
