Asharoken is a village located in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. It is within the Town of Huntington. Asharoken encloses part of Eatons Neck, and a long, low, narrow isthmus connecting Northport in the southeast to Eaton's Neck in the northwest, and separating Northport Bay from Long Island Sound. The Village of Asharoken is named after Chief Asharoken, head of the Matinecocks Native American tribe which inhabited the area prior to English settlements. Chief Asharoken sold the land that is now Asharoken, Eatons Neck, and Northport to European settlers in 1656.
The neighborhood is served by Huntington Union Free School District which is the oldest in the state and has five elementary schools, one junior high and one high school. Asharoken has a wide range of places to shop, stay and eat and has many attractions to visit. Some of these popular restaurants are Venus Greek Restaurant, Happy Wok Restaurant, Show Win, Juan Viva Restaurant, Greenlawn Family Restaurant, LA Villini Italian Restaurant and Piccolo Restaurant of Huntington. The David Conklin Farmhouse Museum is amongst must-see attractions in Asharoken which contains artifacts and is decorated to illustrate three periods of the country’s history such as Colonial, Federal, and Victorian.
North Shore Eye Care serves the residents of Asharoken a variety of concerns including laser vision correction. Our eye doctors at North Shore eye care are careful to steer our patients into the best laser vision correction procedure for their unique eyes. Many patients do well with bladeless custom lasik and about 70 % of our patients having laser vision correction do have lasik. Our board certified lasik specialists are experts at determining who is right for each procedure. In a complimentary consultation, our eye specialists will test your eyes with corneal topography and pachymetry to see your unique corneal shape and thickness. We then use that information along with your myopic, hyperopic or astigmatic prescription to determine if you can have lasik or advanced surface ablation.
Generally, patients with thin corneas, irregular corneas, high prescriptions, dry eyes, or a few other considerations are better with PRK because the depth of cornea for the entire procedure is less. With PRK, the healing time is longer and a bit more uncomfortable, but the final visual result is the same.
North Shore Care is committed to providing continuing education opportunities for Optometrists. For more information, please see our previous symposia or a list of upcoming events.
