LASIK Laser Eye Surgery in Long Island

Cataract surgery for far and near

Posted on Feb 16 2009 by unknown

Cataract surgery has advanced a lot over the last few years. Cataract surgery used to mean the removal of the cloudy lens in a patient's eye. The lens would be replaced with a fixed focus intraocular lens with a fixed focus. This was a wonderful treatment and cataract surgeons learned to do the procedure well. Dr. Jeffrey Martin and Dr. Lawrence Zweibel have studied cataract surgery and perfected the use of eye drop anesthesia meaning that there are no injections around the eyes. There are no sutures used and no eye patch necessary. A patient gets right back to their normal life without problems like excessive astigmatism or significant blurred vision or pain. At North Shore Eye Care in Smithtown New York on Long Island serving Nassau and Suffolk Counties, we perform many hundred cataract surgeries each year. We have a reputation for expert cataract surgery with few complications. Dr. Martin and Dr. Zweibel were both voted "Top Doctors: New York Metro Area" by Castle Connoll

Laser vision correction with a thin cornea

You have been told that you have a thin cornea, but you desire laser vision correction. At North Shore Eye Care in Smithtown New York on Long Island serving Nassau and Suffolk County, we specialize in all forms of refractive laser eye surgery. Dr. Jeffrey Martin and Dr. Lawrence Zweibel have been performing laser vision correction for over ten years and have been voted "Top Doctors: New York Metro Area" by their peers. They personally evaluate all lasik prospects with a free lasik evaluation at their Smithtown office. They measure your pupil size, corneal shape by corneal topography and corneal thickness by pachymetry. About 70 % of patients are good candidates for bladeless custom lasik or blade-free intralasik. Because bladeless flaps are very thin and very precise, many patients with thin corneas who could not have lasik eye surgery in the past can now have bladeless custom lasik. With the older blade microkeratome flap makers, not used anymore by Dr. Martin or Dr. Zweibel, f

All cataract surgery is not the same

North Shore Eye Care was founded in 1960 by Dr. Sidney Martin in Smithtown New York. At the time, Dr. Martin practiced out of his house because there were no office buildings in Smithtown. North Shore Eye Care has come all long way. Cataract surgery especially is a totally different procedure. Today, Dr. Jeffrey Martin and Dr. Lawrence Zweibel perform hundreds of cataract surgery procedures each year. They rarely use needle injections because eye drop anesthesia is more comfortable and safer for most patients. There is no need for stiches to close our wounds because they are only 2 mm wide. Because there is no needle injection, there is no need for an eye patch following cataract surgery. When intraocular implants first became popular, a patient did not have a choice in implants (IOLs). The mere fact that a lens could be placed to replace the cloudy lens (cataract) was amazing enough. There were still problems with inducing astigmatism and implant power accuracy. The IOL Mas

It has been a cold tough winter. Spring is coming. At North Shore Eye Care in Smithtown New York, we are preparing for the spring and summer. Dr. Jeffrey Martin and Dr. Lawrence Zweibel do only the best laser eye surgery procedures. They do all blade-free intralasik. Intralase is a laser that makes the most precise and safe flap in lasik vision correction. The flap is the first step in the lasik procedure and is quite important to the success of the laser vision correction. Intralase bladeless flaps allow the best chance for a wonderful result. When it comes to laser vision correction, Dr. Jeff Martin and Dr. Larry Zweibel do customvue custom vision correction using wavescan waveprint mapping. This technique takes into account that every person's visual system is unique much like your fingerprint. The laser reads yo

Financing makes having bladeless custom lasik easier

The best laser vision correction procedures do have a significant cost. In doing lasik, Dr. Jeffrey Martin and Dr. Lawrence Zweibel feel that Intralase bladeless flap creation is essential. Blade-free lasik flaps are safer and more precise. In the event that a flap does not look perfect, which is rarely the case, it is simply not lifted and you are able to repeat the procedure in a few weeks time. A patient having lasik should also insist on a custom procedure. Years ago, noncustom lasik was the best we had, but with the advent of customvue custom procedures, the laser looks at your unique visual system and creates a custom waveprint wavescan map of each person's visual system. This automatically is centered and tracked during the procedure with the VISX Star S4 laser. By blending bladeless and custom intralasik, the results are the most precise and reproducible. At North Shore Eye Care, we pride ourselves in doing the best procedures for each patient. That may be why both Dr.
