Diabetes, a disease that has reached epidemic proportions in the United States affects all organ systems in our bodies.  Aside from raising blood sugar it is associated with small blood vessel disease which can lead to sores that fail to heal, especially in the lower extremities, kidney disease and high blood pressure, and visual disturbance which can to blindness.
