Cataract surgery is done in the most modern way at our eye care practice and takes about 10 minutes.  Our board certified cataract doctors and cataract surgeons use small incision cataract surgery and do not use stitches, eye patches or needles around the eyes.  Our patients stay in their own clothes and return home the very same day.  There is little to no discomfort and our patients see right away.  Our eye surgeons specialize in intraocular implants or IOLs that are designed to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.  There are accommodating IOLs like crystalens that moves slightly in the eye with focus which increases depth of vision.  We also use multifocal implants like the restor, rezoom, and tecnis multifocal.  We also use Acrysof Toric implant to reduce or eliminate astigmatism in patients with astigmatism.  Dr. Martin and Dr. Zweibel have been voted "Top Doctors: New York Metro Area" by Castle Connolly ltd and North Shore Eye Care has been voted a National Crystalens Cataract Surgery Center of Excellence by Bausch and Lomb.

We start eye drops three days before cataract surgery because we feel that it gives our patients the best chance at a great result.  We use an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory eye drop.  Following cataract surgery, we continue eye drops, also adding a steroid eye drop for several weeks following cataract surgery.  The eye drops are probably the hardest part about cataract surgery due to the fact that you have to use them for weeks.
