Gold Medal Winner & World Cup Champion Skier  Lindsey Vonn To Serve As LASIK Spokesperson For Better Vision Network

Losing a contact lens at 80 MPH while competing in a downhill event is something Olympic Gold Medalist, Lindsey Vonn no longer has to worry about thanks to LASIK, according to eye surgeon Jeffrey Martin, MD, medical director of North Shore Eye Care where Lindsey serves as official spokesperson.

Lindsey Vonn is an American Alpine ski racer with the U.S. Ski Team and arguably the most dominant American female skier of all time.  She has won four overall World Cup Championships and won the gold medal in downhill at the 2010 Winter Olympics, the first ever in the event for an American woman. She has also won five consecutive World Cup season titles in the downhill discipline, four consecutive titles in Super G and three consecutive titles in the combined of 2012.

But despite all of her success in Alpine skiing, Lindsey was having trouble with her vision. She was a long-term contact lens wearer, which became more and more difficult in the past few years. Like most other sports, perfect vision is critical for success in Skiing. In 2010 when Lindsey started having vision problems, she knew it was time to consider having LASIK. In June 2010 Lindsey had  her  LASIK procedure and now has better than 20/20 vision! “I decided to have LASIK because I noticed that it was becoming more difficult to see the gates and judge the terrain as I was skiing. I couldn’t clearly see the terrain on the mountain and the slightest miscalculation could mean the difference between winning and losing,” said Vonn.
