North Shore Eye Care which boasts the largest LASIK facility in Suffolk County offers the latest in state of the art refractive surgery. The surgeons at North Shore have been performing refractive surgery for approximately 30 years when radial keratotomy first came into vogue. This procedure which involved performing radial incisions on the surface of the cornea with a diamond blade was only capable of treating low to moderate amounts of myopia (near-sightedness). Now we perform all procedures with a laser so that all procedures are bladeless. Moreover we can treat higher amounts of myopia with far greater precision. Astigmatism and hyperopia (far-sightedness) are now also treatable.

Actually, with LASIK, we use two lasers. The first creates a thin flap on the surface of the cornea, the main lens of the eye that is reshaped when improving your vision. By making this flap we are able to leave the surface of the cornea undisturbed which results in quicker healing. In fact people are able to go about their normal activities the very next day with vision that is usually better than they previously had. The thin LASIK flap is performed with an extremely precise laser known as a femptosecond laser which is known for it's speed, precision, and safety. The second laser uses wave front technology borrowed from NASA. This Custom-Vue laser offers everyone their own unique treatment and in addition to treating your glass prescription it can treat other aberrations not treated with your glasses or contact lenses.

To see if your a candidate for this exciting procedure we welcome you to come in for a complimentary evaluation, and see the world in a new light.
