North Shore Eye Care Educational Symposium a huge success in Long Island New York

North Shore Eye Care held it's semiannual eye care symposium for optometrists today in Long Island New York.  The eye doctors of North Shore Eye Care as well as the attending optometrists had a wonderful and educational day.  Dr. Jeffrey Martin, managing partner of North Shore Eye Care enjoys these days of education and camaraderie because they help to build a very important bridge in eye care in Suffolk County Long Island.

The day began with Dr. Jeffrey Martin giving a tribute to his father, Dr. Sidney Martin, the founder of North Shore Eye Care.  He spoke of Dr. Sid's founding North Shore Eye Care in 1962 and watching his practice blossom into a four location eye care practice specializing in cataract surgery, LASIK laser vision correction, glaucoma care, uveitis, dry eye, eyelid problems, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.  Dr. Jeff Martin remembered his father's simple and modest ways as well as his kindness and compassion toward all people he encountered.  Following the dedication, Dr. John Mauro gave an excellent lecture on uveitis and cases in cataract surgery and LASIK.  His talks are always informative and enjoyed by all.  Next, Dr. Paul Choinski gave a lecture on the medical and laser treatment of glaucoma.  He touched on eye drop therapy for glaucoma and highlighted the benefits of SLT laser alone and how it compared to ALT.  Next, was an informative lecture on eye care practice coding and billing as well as practice management by Ron Parnell, the administrator of Maine Eye Care.  After a short break, Dr. Brett Rosenblatt gave a wonderful and informative lecture on retinal disease and macular swelling.  He discussed macular degeneration, epiretinal membrane, diabetic retinopathy, cystoid macular edema among other retinal topics.  Brett is informative and intelligent in his presentations.  Next, Dr. Jeffrey Martin lectured on cataract surgery and LASIK cases and complications.  He tried to give the attending optometrists some insight to managing post-operative problems in cataract surgery and LASIK.  Last Jim Rienzo of Allergan gave an amazing talk on Internet marketing of an eye care practice.  He touched on social media as well as pay per click and organic listings.  All of the optometrists were engaged and asked many excellent questions.  We really enjoy the back and forth that promotes education and professionalism.

North Shore Eye Care was so thankful to have their wonderful staff, especially Jacqueline, our director of community relations, Liz Tania, our LASIK manager, and Jennifer, our assistant administrator, help put together such a great day of education.  Dr. Larry Zweibel was in attendance as was our newest corneal specialist that is starting in August, Dr. Faye Knoll.  She is currently a fellow in cornea at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan New York.
