North Shore Eye Care Winter Symposium for Optometrists a huge success
North Shore Eye Care had their Winter Symposium for Optometrists today in Huntington and it was a huge success. There were 150 optometrists in attendance and the day was filled with fellowship and education. Dr. Jeff Martin started the day by thanking his staff, particularly Jacqueline Hernandez, Liz Velis and Shaun Anderson who put the day together. Dr. Martin told a history of North Shore Eye Care that was started by his father in 1962. Dr. Sidney Martin was there and was pleased. Dr. Jeff Martin spoke about the expansion of their primary Smithtown location and the addition of a state-of-the-art LASIK center right in Smithtown. In addition, Dr. Martin thanked Dr. Paul Choinski, his partner in the new office Riverhead Long Island and Dr. Stephen Greenberg, North Shore Eye Care's partner in Holbrook and Deer Park. There was also mention that North Shore Eye Care is the Official Eye Care Provider of the New York Islanders and the Official LASIK Provider of the New York Mets.
The first speaker was Dr. Robert Dunphy from Boston. He gave a great lecture about the interpretation and use of OCT in the general eye care practice. He showed clearly how eye doctors can benefit from OCT and not refer patients that do not need referral. He showed OCT and it's uses in glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy as well as epiretinal membrane. Next, Dr. John Mauro gave an excellent talk about intraocular inflammation and uveitis. Dr. John Mauro is a cataract and LASIK specialist as well as a uveitis specialist. The crowd loved it.
Dr. Brian Rosenblatt from New Jersey gave an interesting lecture that covered many interesting ocular topics by way of a jeopardy type game. The audience was well entertained and learned a lot. After lunch, Dr. Jeff Martin spoke on updates in cataract surgery and LASIK for 2012. He spoke about current trends in eye drops and surgical technique as it relates to cataract surgery and laser vision correction. Next, Dr. Dhar spoke about the secondary causes of glaucoma. Dr. Sonya Dhar is a glaucoma specialist with North Shore Eye Care in Smithtown and Riverhead and she was thorough and well received. Next, Jim Rienzo, senior eye care business advocate at Allergan lectured about business trends in eye care and the importance of internet presence, social media, and the future of eye care.
