In the year that North Shore Eye Care celebrates its 50th year anniversary we have also achieved are greatest growth.  In addition to doubling the size of our office we have also added a new lasik suite across the hall.  This modern,  state of the art lasik suite is the largest in Suffolk County and will be open to all Ophthalmologists qualified to perform lasik. Our Board Certified Ophthalmic surgeons Dr. Jeffrey Martin, Dr. John Mauro, and Dr. Lawrence Zweibel offer I-Lasik which includes the latest innovations incorporated into lasik over the past decade.  This includes blade free surgery thanks to our Intra-lase, a femptosecond laser that can create a flap on the surface of the cornea in a matter of seconds.  The purpose of creating a corneal flap is to allow rapid healing with no scarring enabling patients to return to work the very next day.  We also offer Custom-Vue laser that offers everyone the finest quality of vision that often exceeds the vision that you had with your own glasses or contact lenses.

Glaucoma is a large part of our practice.  In our effort to better serve our patients we are fortunate that Dr. Sonya Dahr has joined us.  She is a fellowship trained glaucoma expert who is an invaluable asset to our practice.  Glaucoma, which can lead to irreversible loss is usually associated with high intraocular pressures.  Vision is lost when the nerve fiber layer of the retina thins out, losing its ability to transmit visual signal to the brain.  To help us diagnose the health of the retina and detect glaucoma in its earliest stages we have purchased optical coherence tomography unit that accurately reveals all the layers of the retina in precise detail.  This along with visual field testing, fundus photograghs, and a complete eye exam enables us to determine who requires treatment and who doesn't sparing patients from unnecessary treatment.

For those with cataracts we offer sutureless, microscopic cataract surgery.   Today it is not enough to simply consider having your cataract removed since it equally important to choose the best lens that will replace your cataract.  Our surgeons who have been recognized in Castle Connelly's Top Doctors in the New York Metro area can help you reach the right decision.  There are many lenses to consider including aspheric lenses, multifocals, toric lenses, and accommodating intraocular lenses.  Remember once a month we hold seminars on both cataract and lasik surgery.

Once again the surgeons and staff at North Shore Eye Care wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year!
