With Christmas around the corner what better gift to give than lasik for a loved one
What better time than Christmas to offer the gift of sight without the need for glasses or contacts, and to make it easier for families and friends, North Shore Eye Care is offering a special bonus this month for all people who sign up for this exciting procedure. Think of the freedom Lasik offers you in that you no longer will require glasses or contacts to see the world clearer than you ever saw before. The surgeons at North Shore Eye Care have had extensive experience with laser vision correction, having been involved with Lasik and PRK since its approval in the mid 1990's.
Patient satisfaction with Lasik has been very high and as a result we have seen demand for this procedure expand so much that we have found it necessary to move our Lasik suite next door across the hall from our main office at 260 Middle Country Road. Our new Lasik suite has been running smoothly since its grand opening this month. While our laser facilities have always been top notch we have added new improvements in our new facility where patients can enjoy undergoing their Lasik in a comfortable, soothing setting. The actual Lasik suite has an environment that is tightly controlled so that humidity and temperature stay at a constant level insuring that the laser function optimally. This translates to more predictable results in a sterile operating environment. In fact our infection rate has been zero since we have begun performing Lasik. This is of course desirable with an elective procedure but to put this in perspective we have seen two serious corneal infections in contact lens wearers in the past two weeks. Of note, while sleeping with any contact lens is known to be very risky in terms of infection both patients denied doing this. A very important consideration is that any contact lens wearer who notices increasing discomfort with wear, especially if this is associated with increased injection or reddening of the eye with or without visual blurring should seek immediate medical attention. Corneal ulcers if allowed to fester can result in permanent visual loss due to permanent scarring of the cornea and sometimes even loss of an eye should the infection penetrate the cornea.
Most patients are good candidates for Lasik assuming they have normal, healthy eyes. One important requirement for this procedure is that your correction remains stable. It is for this reason that we never operate on anyone below the age of 18. There is really no upper age limit for this Lasik, though again your eyes must be in good health. If a cataract is developing strong consideration should be given to performing a cataract removal instead. Even if your correction is stable it is still possible that over time your eyes may still change over time. Usually these changes are minimal and don't require treatment. However sometimes, even without surgery the correction sometimes changes. Should this happen an enhancement can always be performed. One of the nice things about having Lasik at North Shore Eye Care is that we are so confident in our results that we offer free enhancements to all patients who underwent their original procedure with us.
The surgeons at North Shore Eye Care are dedicated to our patients well being. Founded in 1961 by Dr. Sidney Martin we offer total patient care. Dr. Martin was followed by Dr Lawrence Zweibel, director of Ophthalmology at St. Catherine's Hospital in Smithtown and then his son Dr. Jeffrey Martin, associate professor at Stony Brook University. More recently we were joined by Dr. John Mauro, a fellowship trained surgeon in uveitis and Lasik, and now we are proud to say that we have been joined by Dr. Sonya Dahr, a glaucoma expert who studied under Dr. Alan Crandall, a world renowned cataract and glaucoma surgeon from Salt Lake City, Utah.
