2011 at North Shore Eye Care... Cataract and LASIK specialists

North Shore Eye Care, Cataract Surgery and LASIK specialists has had an amazing 2011.  This year has marked huge advancements and improvements for our patients in the areas of cataract surgery, LASIK, glaucoma care, uveitis, as well as general eye care and retinal care.  North Shore Eye Care has always had board certified committed eye surgeons that were willing to lead the community in cutting edge eye care and eye surgery such as cataract surgery and LASIK. 

In the beginning of the year, Dr. Sidney Martin, Dr. Larry Zweibel, Dr. Jeffrey Martin, and Dr. John Mauro were thrilled with the expansion of their primary office.  The office was tight and growth had strained the ability to care for all of our patients in a timely fashion.  After deliberation, North Shore Eye Care decided to double the size of our eye care space increasing the office size to 6000 square feet with 15 examining rooms.  We immediately saw an increase in our practice patterns.  We were also able to add new technology like Pentacam corneal topography and fluorescein angiography.  Our cataract and LASIK patients were able to enjoy a better office experience along with our general eye care patients. 

Next came the installation of our new LASIK center across the hall from the main practice.  This LASIK center, Long Island Laser Vision, is an open access laser vision correction center that can be enjoyed by other local LASIK surgeons as well.  A lot of thought went into designing a great LASIK center including layout and HVAC decisions.  We placed a Liebert system that is designed to keep temperature and humidity constant leading to better and more consistent results.  We also invested in iLASIK technology, which is bladeless custom LASIK.  This insures that our flaps are made by laser, not blade machine and that each LASIK procedure is custom to that patient.

If that is not enough for one year, we added an excellent glaucoma specialist, Dr. Sonya Dhar.  Dr. Dhar did her medical school and ophthalmology training in Boston and then went on to do a glaucoma fellowship with Alan Crandall, MD, a world renowned glaucoma specialist.  Sonya Dhar, MD exemplifies what North Shore Eye Care stands for, that is excellent high quality of care and kindness and courtesy to all of our patients.  Dr. Dhar has a bright future and will be welcomed by the Long Island Community.

Next month will see the final planning for North Shore Eye Care in Long Island New York come to fruition.  Dr. Jeffrey Martin and Dr. Paul Choinski will open North Shore Eye Care in Riverhead Long Island.  This brand new state-of-the-art eye care facility will be open six days each week including evening hours to serve our patients better.  All of the amazing technology available in our Smithtown location will be in our Riverhead office as well including corneal topography, OCT, pachymetry, automatic refraction and tonometry, fundus photography, IOL Master, fluorescein angiography and more.  This ensures that the people on the east end of Long Island will receive the same high quality of care as all of the North Shore Eye Care patients.  The eye doctors available at North Shore Eye Care in Riverhead will be Dr. Grace OMalley, Dr. Paul Choinski, Dr. Sonya Dhar, Dr. John Mauro, and Dr. Jeffrey Martin.  We are sure that our Riverhead venture will be successful because our brand of excellent eye care in a warm and comfortable setting has been well received all over Long Island.
