Cataract Procedure

The day of cataract surgery, you arrive at the eye surgery center at your given time.  You are able to stay in your own comfortable clothes and receive IV sedation from our board certified anesthesiologist.  You lie on a comfortable bed and see the bright light of the microscope  Cataract surgery is not painful and takes just a few minutes in most cases.  Through a small incision, our cataract experts are able to remove the cloudy lens of the eye (the cataract)  and replace it with a new intraocular lens implant.  There are several types of implants lenses.  Some correct only distance vision.  Some correct distance and near vision and others correct astigmatism.  You will pick the lens that is best for you with the help of our ophthalmologists.  Cataract surgery is typically a one time surgery so it is important that you understand your options and choose the implant lens that best suits your desired result.   After cataract surgery, we have you recover for a few minutes and then you are free to leave and return to your home.  We suggest that you relax that first day and let the eye heal.  There is rarely any pain or discomfort and visual recovery is fast.  We see you the next day in the office for a check-up and by  the following week, you are able to resume full activity.
