At North LShore Eye Care we believe that our patients deserve the very best eye care that they can have.  That is why we are committed to utilizing the latest technology when it becomes available.  Probably one of the most frequent problems that we see in our office are complaints related to dry eyes.  While there are many test that lead to the diagnosis of a dry eye problem none are really conclusive.  One of the best ways to test for this condition is by actually analyzing the tears and an excellent way to do this is to test the concentration of the tear layer.  People with dry eyes have more concentrated tears which can be measured by testing tear osmolarity.  Formerly this was a formidable challenge as a relatively large quantity was required which can be difficult to obtain, especially in someone with a dry eye condition.  But at North Shore Eye Care we purchased a new TearLab Osmolarity System that simply requires putting a probe in contact with the tear meniscus between the lower lid and the eye.  An instant read out of the tear concentration measured in milli-osmoles per liter is made that can not only make the diagnosis but allows us to follow your progress as you are treated for this condition.  The beauty of this test is that we can often diagnose and treat your problem before any damage can occur to your eyes.Patients having cataract surgery or lasik refractive surgery can benefit as well since by optimizing the tear layer prior to surgery can significantly  improve your chance for an excellent result.

Aside from having an excellent, modern facility are doctors are all board certified ophthalmic surgeons who have been recognized in Castle Connelly's Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area  for the past 10 years.  We are the team physicians for The New York Islanders and the Lasik providers for the New York Mets.  We recommend you come for a visit to our state of the art office and see our new lasik suite which will be fully operational the second we of November.  This will be the largest lasik suite in Suffolk County offering I-Lasik, the very latest in lasik technology which includes the use of Intra-lase to create safe corneal flalps without the need of a blade as well as Custom-Vue lasik that gives patiets their own, unique correction.  We look forward to seeing you at one of our  free monthly lasik and cataract seminars
