Smithtown to have the largest lasik center in Suffolk County
Construction at the largest lasik center to be built in Suffolk County is humming along on schedule. It will have many amenities that should make for a more pleasureable experience for all those undergoing this miraculous procedure. Even the lighting will be carefully controlled to make this a more relaxing environment. But most of all equipment will be state of the art. This will include all of the features that make lasik so successful. This includes all forms of laser vision correction whether it be a surface laser procedure known as PRK or lasek or the better known lasik procedure.
Sometimes surface laser procedures are the preferred approach and our experienced doctors will recommend this approach if it seems to be the better procedure for you. Surface laser procedures such as PRK are done roughly 20% of the time by experienced lasik surgeons. This approach is recommended for people who may have surface disease such as an irregular epithelium which are the surface cells lining the cornea. Other reasons for having a surface procedure may be because the cornea is too thin or perhaps the correction is very large. While somewhat controversial many surgeons prefer this approach with patients showing signs of dry eye.
Most patients however are good candidates for lasik. This is the preferred procedure since the recovery is so much quicker. Patients are able to go about their normal routines the very next day. To make lasik the safe procedure it is known to be we utilize the Intralase. This is an extremely fast laser known as a femptosecond laser that creates a uniformly thin flap within the cornea in approximately 15 seconds. By making a flap the surface epithelial cells of the cornea are left undisturbed thus allowing for the quick recovery. Once the flap is complete a second laser is used to reshape the cornea, the main lens of the eye, which enables you to see so well. In an effort to give you excellent vision we perform Custom-vue laser utilizing wave front technology so that ever persons's correction is unique.
For all those interested in lasik we recommend you come over to our Smithtown office and get a free consultation. We also give monthly seminars on the fourth Tues. of every month. This month's seminar will be hosted by Dr. John Mauro who is a fellowship trained lasik surgeon from Boston. While you are there ask to see our new lasik center across the hall.
