At North Shore Eye Care our board certified surgeons (Dr. Martin, Dr. Zweibel and Dr Mauro) perform many cataract surgeries each year, using advanced techniques such as topical anesthesia, no periocular needle injections or eye patches. All of our doctors at North Shore Eye Care are specialized in advanced cataract surgery. Cataract is a natural clouding or yellowing of the lens inside your eye. Cataract surgery, the cataract or cloudy lens of the eye is removed through a small incision using ultrasound technology called phacoemulsification. The cloudy lens is replaced with an intraocular lens implant or IOL. The eye doctors at North Shore Eye Care also use premium lens  implants such as: crystalens, tecnis multifocal, the restor. All of these premium lenses give patients better far and near vision without the use of glasses and contact lenses. We also use the Acrysof Toric implant to reduce or eliminate astigmatism. All of our doctors enjoy using these improved implants because it allows our patients more freedom and range of their vision. Our board certified eye doctors do the very best techniques when it comes to cataract surgery including performing cataract surgery without stitches, eye patches or even a needle injection around the eye.  We use numbing eye drops and IV sedation and usually complete the cataract surgery in about 10 minutes.  Our patients stay in their own clothes and return home the very same day.

Today, Dr Zweibel hosted our monthly morning cataract seminar. New developments in cataract surgery and how this surgery can free you from glasses will be discussed.  With modern technology this operation can not only be performed more quickly, but more importantly, with much greater safety. Our eye physicians and surgeons, Dr. Jeff Martin, Dr. Larry Zweibel, Dr Sidney Martin and Dr. John Mauro, will be conducting  monthly seminars to afford  patients better education in their decision to have cataract surgery.  Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure that is conducted under IV and the use of topical numbing eye drops and therefore do not use needles around the eyes, stitches, or even an eye patch following surgery.  Patients then have the opportunity to choose a standard IOL or upgrade to a premium implant that reduces or eliminates the need for glasses at all distances.  These implants are called Crystalens, Restor, and Tecnis Multifocal.

In long island new york in suffolk and nassau counties, we see patients from smithtown, nesconset, saint james, kings park, centereach, selden, coram, middle island, riverhead, ridge, shoreham,  sag harbor, hampton bays, and many other hamlets and towns uncluding the five boroughs.
