Cataract seminar to be held this Tuesday at North Shore Eye Care

October 07, 2011 @ 04:10 PM — by Lawrence Zweibel

With all the new developments occurring in regards to cataract surgery and intra-ocular lens implantation that is associated with this procedure Dr. Lawrence Zweibel will be hosting a cataract seminar this coming Tuesday at 12:30 P.M.  Attendees are welcome to check out our new lasik facility that is currently under construction across the hall.

As cataract surgery continues to evolve this operation has become much safer than in the past with a more rapid healing time.  Patients are able to have their surgery outside of the hospital in a free standing state certified operating room.  Stays as short as 2 hours are all that is required.  To insure safety medical clearance by your family physician is still a requirement and to insure your comfort as well as safety during your operation a board certified anesthesiologist is also present.  Relaxation given intravenously similar to valium is all that is required for this quick, painless procedure.

When your vision fails the first thing to consider is whether your vision is correctable by other means such as glasses.  However if symptoms still persist that make it difficult to perform your daily activities consideration for cataract surgery should then given.  This is in part because the surgery will be safer and visual recovery is quicker if the cataract is not overly advanced.

The next big decision that a patient needs to make is how much independence he wants from glasses.  For those patients that don’t mind wearing glasses single focus lenses that are covered by insurance carriers can give excellent vision.  Many patients today, however wish to avail themselves of the newer lenses that are available on the market.  These lenses are capable of significantly reducing astigmatism for most all patients and for those patients wishing for both excellent and near vision there are several lenses on the market that can help you reach your goal.  These lenses come in two distinct designs.  One types is an accommodative single focus lens that can alter your focus when viewing objects that are either near or far.  Another type is called a multi-focal which has both a near and distance focus ground into the lens.

All of our surgeons at North Shore Eye Care are board certified ophthalmologists serving patients in Smithtown and shortly in our new facility located in Riverhead.  The team physicians of the the Islanders and the lasik providers of New York Mets welcome you to next week’s seminar.  Refreshments will be served.
