Fall is here and at North Shore Eye Care we offer vision correction (LASIK, PRK, LASEK) which can correct nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. Dr. Jeffrey Martin, Dr. Larry Zweibel and Dr. John Mauro follow in the tradition that Dr. Sidney Martin started North Shore eye care in 1962. At North Shore Eye Care we offer vision correction (LASIK, PRK, LASEK) which can correct nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. Some people tend to think that if your not in your twenties or thirties then they are no longer a candidate for lasik. This is not true. Many of our patients are not sure if they are a candidate because of their age.

At North Shore Eye Care in Smithtown on Long Island in New York, Dr. Jeffrey Martin, Dr. Lawrence Zweibel and Dr John Mauro feel that this is an important issue. Bladeless Custom LASIK is an excellent choice for roughly 70 % of those that qualify for laser vision correction.  It has a wonderful track record and especially in the blade-free platform, it is exceedingly safe.  LASEK or PRK is certainly not newer of safer, but may be beneficial when it is necessary to conserve as much cornea as necessary.  Any eye surgeon that tells a patient that one way or the other is the only way it should be done is simply not telling the whole story.  The investment in the blade free laser platforms for making LASIK flaps is significant and not every laser eye surgeon has made that investment.  Typically, those patients that have bladeless custom lasik or ilasik under age 40 to 42 are able to see great in the distance and great close up. When presbyopia sets in the early 40s, anyone with great distance vision begins to have difficulty with close up vision, like reading. For those patients that have had laser eye surgery or laser vision correction, they will need reading glasses just like any patient with great distance vision who has not had lasik. Patients that are nearsighted, can read with glasses off, but will need bifocals to keep their glasses on in this situation. Dr. Jeffrey Martin, Dr. Larry Zweibel and Dr John Mauro perform many lasik laser eye surgery procedures on those over 40. It is important that those patients know that although their distance vision will be outstanding, they still may need help for seeing at near.
