With three leading eye surgeons North Shore Eye Care is the place to go for your cataract surgery.  Drs. John Mauro, Jeffrey Martin, and Lawrence Zweibel have extensive experience with the latest developments in cataract surgery as well as the vast array of intraocular lenses now available.  Best of all surgery is now available in a free standing unit enabling you to completely avoid hospitalization.  In fact the stay at the surgery unit is often less than 2 hours and there is no longer a need to remove your street clothes.  To insure patient comfort a board certified anesthesiologist is always present.

When having cataract surgery patients can now choose lenses that correct astigmatism that often required patients to see well with glasses even before there cataracts formed.  Having these lenses inserted at the time of cataract surgery can free people from the need for glasses for the first in their lives.  All that would be required would be a pair of over the counter magnifiers when looking at small objects up close.

For those without large amounts of astigmatism two types of lenses are now available that enable to see both near and far.  One type known as the Crystalens has a single focus.  It can bend forward  when you accomodate on near objects thus enabling you to change your focus from distance to near.  Another type of lens known as a multifocal lens has diffractive properties that has both a distance and near focus ground into the lens.
