North Shore eye care continuing education symposium for optometrists a huge success.

North Shore eye care hosted their third Continuning Education Symposium for Optometrists at the Huntington Hilton in Melville today. Over one hundred optometrists were in attendence and the day was enjoyed by all.  We are thrilled that our long island symposium had eye doctors from Riverhead, Smithtown, and western Suffolk county.  Dr. Sidney Martin kicked things off with an introduction of the day.  He spoke about the last year and the fact that North Shore eye care has become the Official eye care provider of the new york islanders and the official lasik provider of the new york mets.  We recently expanded our office to 15 lanes with a 6000 sq ft footprint and intend on expanded to two addtional locations in the next year.  Of course none of this could be possible without the help of our supportive optometric network.  Dr. Jeffrey Martin discussed some clinical situations in cataract evaluations where the cataract is not the visual problem.  He also discussed cataract sugery and lasik protocols.  Dr. John Mauro discussed ocular toxicity caused by certain medications.  Dr. Jeff Augustine, from Ohio, discussed lasik and prk or advanced surface ablation.  Dr. Jay Wisnicki discussed diplopia after cataract surgery and laser vision correction.  Jim Rienzo discussed benchmarking in the optometric practice and Dr. Mark Rivellese discussed current concepts in retina.  Every eye doctor received 6 continuing education credits and hopefully everyone was able to get quite a bit of clincal education that they can bring home to their practice of optometry.  Some of the lectures were more interactive with automated audience participation which was fun for all.  We hope that everyone enjoyed the day.   Our next symposium will be held on January 8th.
