With the advent of the intralase bladeless surgery is now possible  The intralase is capable of putting down thousands of applications that are microns apart to create a well controlled precise flap on the surface of the cornea.  The cornea which is the main lens of the eye is then reshaped with the aid of a second laser often in less than one minute.  The advantage of creating a flap is too reduce scarring while at the same time enabling quicker healing.  The healing is so fast in fact that people see clearly the very next day.

Many patients ask about alternative techniques such as lasek  and PRK.  These are excellent techniques often employed by the surgeons at North Shore Eye Care when patients have certain conditions of the eye that make them poor candidates for lasik.  Common examples of this are patients with very thin corneas or corneal scarring.  When these techniques are employed no flap is created.  The laser reshaping occurs on the corneal surface which results in a slower visual recovery.
