Laser cataract surgery... coming to an OR near you

Laser cataract surgery has always been an interesting concept, but the board certified eye surgeons at North Shore eye care in smithtown new york have been downplaying this possibility because it was not possible in the past.  Now, there are several companies on the verge of making laser cataract surgery a reality on long island.  Traditionally, cataract surgery has been performed by computer controlled ultrasound called phacoemulsification for years.  This is a very precise and safe way to remove a cataract and our long island cataract specialists have become quite proficient in this type of lens replacement surgery and have performed cataract surgery this way without needle injections, stitches or even an eye patch.  Our patients have enjoyed excellent outcomes with standard and premium intraocular lens implants that reduce the need for glasses following eye surgery.
