With the ever changing techniques and innovations associated with cataract surgery there has been large patient interest in this field.  For this reason we will be offering a cataract seminar at North Shore Eye Care.  Realizing the early time of day coffee and refreshments will be available for all those who didn't get a chance to have breakfast.

Cataracts which are a clouding of the natural lens of the eye can now be removed through a microscopic incision that is so small that it seals naturally without the need for sutures.  The cataract is emulsified (phacoemulsification) by an ultrasonic titanium tip that oscillates at greater than 30,000 cycles a second.  Once removed there are a variety of choices to be considered when replacing the cataractous lens with a new, artificial lens.  For those with astigmatism lenses that correct for this problem are available.  For those who wish greater independence from glasses lenses that offer near and distance are also available.

The surgeons at North Shore Eye Care have vast experience with all elements of this surgery as we were one of the very first surgeons in Suffolk County to implant intraocular lenses as early as the 1970's.  All the surgeons at our facility are board certified ophthalmologists and we have been consistently recognized in Castle Connelly's Top Doctors in the New York Metro area.
