Cataract surgery for the aging patient

February 15, 2011 @ 08:12 AM — by unknown

As a child of an aging parent,  it can become difficult to determine the cause of decreased function.  Many of our parents begin to have balance issues, memory issues, among other functional problems.  Blurred vision can be another cause.  As we age, the lens of our eyes becomes cloudy.  This is called a cataract.  A cataract causes glare with oncoming headlights at night, glare with sunlight, and blurred vision.  At North Shore eye care in smithtown new york in long island, we have three board certified cataract specialists to help our patients with cataract issues.  As a cataract becomes worse, it can affect the the daily activities of our parents.   There are other issues that can also cause blurred vision such as macular degeneration, diabetes, corneal issues, glaucoma and other eye problems.

It is important to get a thorough eye exam to determine if pathology exists, especially if it is easily treated without pain or significant burden.  The best way to find the answers to some of the questions of life as an aging person is to be evaluated.

We are available to help with these issues.
