If you were told you can't have lasik, you may still be a candidate for laser vision correction

Laser vision correction encompasses several similar operations, all having the same end result, excellent vision.  The three procedures presently in vogue today are lasik, PRK, and lasik.  Lasik is by far the most popular of these three procedures,  mainly because of the rapid recovery time.  They call this quick recovery the wow factor, which is exactly what most people want to say when they awaken the next morning with crystal clear vision and realize that their glasses aren't on.  Unfortunately not everyone is a candidate for lasik.  People with corneal scarring, corneas that have an atypical shape, thin corneas, and very large corrections may be at an increased risk for this procedure.

While some patients may be at an increased risk for lasik, they might still be good candidates for lasek and PRK.  This is because lasik involves reshaping the cornea under a flap  while the latter two procedures reshape the cornea on the surface.  As a result they save more corneal tissue while still yielding the same excellent result that lasik offers.  The reason why these procedures aren't performed more than 20% of the time is because the recovery is slower.  It may take several weeks or longer to achieve the vision you could get with lasik after just 1 day.

At North Shore Eye Care we offer ILasik which is the very best in lasik technology.  Our Board certified Ophthalmologists have been performing laser vision correction for over 12 years and are consistently recognized in Castle Connelly's Top Doctors in the New York Metro are. We will be happy to advise you as to what procedure will be safest for you.
