Implant lenses in cataract surgery...the experts at North Shore eye care

January 17, 2011 @ 10:03 PM — by unknown

In cataract surgery, the cloudy natural crystalline lens of the eye is replaced with an intraocular lens implant or IOL.  These implants help restore vision in this amazing outpatient eye surgical procedure.  In cataract surgery, the board certified eye doctors at north shore eye care remove the defective lens of the eye in a surgical procedure that lasts a few minutes and is done without stitches, needles around the eyes or even an eye patch.  Our patients stay in their own comfortable clothes and are given IV sedation for comfort.  We use eye drop anesthesia and operate through microscopic incisions that seal without the need for stitches.  Because our cataract surgery is less invasive, our patients are able to continue blood thinners such as coumadin, plavix, vitamen E, and aspirin.  These medically important blood thinning medications can cause harm when stopped.

After the cataract is removed, our Smithtown New York doctors in long island replace the defective lens with an implant lens.  We use monofocal distance implants that are aspheric and better for night driving and other visually difficult situations.  We use multifocal and accommodating implants that are designed to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses for far and near.  We also use toric implants that eliminate astigmatism.  Now is the time to come in and meet one of our amazing board certified cataract surgeons and learn about all of your options.
