North Shore Eye Care hosts contiuning education for optometrists in Huntington New York
North Shore Eye Care hosted their second Continuing Education Symposium for Optometrists this past Sunday January 9th in Huntington New York. The event was a great success and our Smithtown New York based eye care practice attracted optometrists from all over Long Island. The day kicked off with Dr. Sidney Martin welcoming the many attendees and discussing the improvements of our eye care facility and also spoke of the challenges that lie ahead in eye care and medical care in general.
Dr. Jeffrey Martin then gave a lecture on cataract surgery and laser vision correction. The new laser cataract surgery was discussed as well as the current practice patterns in lasik and premium intraocular lens implants. Dr. Martin, a partner at North Shore Eye Care in long island also discussed drop regimens for lasik and cataract surgery and possible causes of decreased vision following these procedures. Dr. John Mauro then spoke about his specialty, uveitis and intraocular inflammation. He gave a broad discussion about how to work up a patient with intraocular inflammation and also discussed current and future treatment courses.
Dr. Karen Mastrota gave a lecture and the ocular surface and covered many areas of anterior segment diagnosis and treatment. She included current and future trends in eye care as it relates to cornea and ocular surface and her lecture was enjoyed by all. James Rienzo, a senior consultant for BSM Consulting, gave an update lecture on electronic medical records and discussed how to implement and what to look for in a software partner. The decision to convert to computerized medical records is an expensive and time consuming one and Jim tried to alleviate some fears of the local eye doctors, but was also honest about the task at hand.
Dr. Brett Rosenblatt was welcomed back to the North Shore Eye Care Symposium and gave an excellent lecture on the current concepts in retina and vitreous diseases. He spoke broadly about many different topics including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, epiretinal membranes and other retinal issues. Dr. Rosenblatt fielded many questions from the audience and his lecture was one of the favorites of the day. Dr. Neil Nichols of Long Island Eye Surgical Care and also North Shore Eye Care gave the final lecture on oculoplastics and eyelid disease and surgery. His lecture was thorough as it relates to the eyelid patient. He spoke about cosmetic issues as well as eyelid tumors and chronic conditions. His lecture was well received and was a great final lecture.
The participant optometrists enjoyed the day of camaraderie and education and were treated to a first rate slate of lecturers and also a nice breakfast and lunch. The eye surgeons at North Shore Eye Care are thankful to all those that participated and are anxiously anticipating feedback that can make these days of education even better.
