The Importance of picking the right surgeon for your cataract operation
While cataract surgery has continued to evolve rapidly over the past decade, not all eye surgeons have kept up with these changes. Some of the changes involving cataract surgery is economical as newer equipment designed to increase the safety of cataract surgery can be expensive. Recently, for instance all the major companies that manufacture phacoemulsification machines have all come up with new, excellent models, all designed to increase the safety of your operation.
The other important advance with cataract surgery involves the new intraocular lenses that are now available for patients. Many of these lenses are designed to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses. They come in both multifocal and accommodative designs. Whichever lens you may decide to get you will find that both these lenses are aspheric. In fact anyone who has never had ocular surgery should insist on having an aspheric lens placed in their eye following cataract surgery. The reason for this is that spherical lenses have increasing power as you go from the center of the lens to the periphery which adversely affects the sharpness of images, especially in poor lighting conditions.
For more information about this interesting topic, we are offering a free seminar at 8 A.M. this Monday at North Shore Eye Care. The surgeons at North Shore eye care have extensive experience with cataract surgery offering the latest technology to our patients. We were recently written up in Newsday where it was mentioned that we are amongst the Top Doctors as recognized by Castle Connelly.
