Prevalence of cataracts increases along with the aging American population

October 01, 2010 @ 05:25 PM — by Lawrence Zweibel

As baby boomers continue to age the amount of cataract surgery performed continues to rise.  Along with the increasing amount of surgery being performed as the population ages technology has continued to improve. As a result patients are requesting surgery sooner.  Luckily even though more surgery is being performed complications from surgery have continually decreased.  We at North Shore Eye Care offer the latest technology in a modern state of the art outpatient surgical facility.  We believe that an educated and informed patient is helpful.  Not only does such a person have a better idea of what to expect, but they are able to make important choices that can affect them for the rest of their lives.  For instance many patients undergoing cataract surgery are unaware of the many choices they have regarding the type of intraocular implant they can have when their cataract is replaced.  For this reason at North Shore Eye Care we offer monthly free seminars.  These are informal meetings that allow plenty of time for questions following the presentation.

The surgeons at North Shore Eye Care have over 30 years experience performing cataract surgery.  All surgeons are Board Certified Opthalmologists.  Additionally the doctors at North Shore Eye have been consistenly recognized in Castle Connelly's Top Doctors in the New York Metro area.  We have been serving patients for 49 years and Dr. Sidney Martin who founded the practice is still busily seeing patients.
