Cataract surgery by the experts at North Shore eye care

September 03, 2010 @ 08:34 AM — by unknown

North Shore eye care has three board certified cataract experts that perform many cataract surgery procedures each year.  Our board certified eye surgeons use the latest techniques and premium implants designed to reduce or eliminate your need for glasses following surgery.  A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye.  As we go through our lives, the lens of the eye, similar to a lens in a camera, begins to harden and as we get older, the natural lens of the eye tends to get cloudy.  The vision becomes blurred and glare tends to cause difficulty with vision.  When the symptoms become significant enough to affect quality of life, we suggest cataract surgery.

At North Shore eye care in smithtown new york in long island, cataract surgery is performed at a surgery center and not the hospital.  Our patients are able to stay in their own comfortable clothes and they receive IV sedation for comfort.  We then remove the cloudy or defective lens through a microscopic incision using ultrasound called phacoemulsification.  After the cataract is removed, we implant a new lens that is designed to reduce your dependence on glasses.  The standard implants are generally covered by insurance and have limited range of vision.  With the premium implants like multifocal and accommodating lens implants, we are able to give a more natural range of vision including far and near.  At our eye care center, we use Crystalens, Restor, and Tecnis Multifocal.  We are also thrilled with the results of the Acrysof Toric implant that reduces or eliminates astigmatism.
