The best cataract surgeons on Long Island now offer a new intraocular lens

The best cataract surgeons on Long Island now offer a new intraocular lens.  Cataracts which occur when the natural, crystalline lens of the eye becomes cloudy can now be replaced by new lenses with excellent optics.  While the natural lens of the eye is often the wrong power for the eye,  thus requiring the use of spectacles to see things in focus, the new implant can be measured to insure good vision without the use of spectacles following surgery.  Since intraocular lenses have one focus most patients prefer to have this focus set for distance.  As a result spectacles are only required for intermediate and near visual activities.  For those who would like still more indepence from glasses newer intraocular  lenses offer both a near and distance focus, often eliminating the need for spectacles.  Multifocal lenses are one example.  However because the focus is divided between near and distance on the same lens, contrast sensitivity can be lost.  This is most apparent when the illumination is poor.  Bausch and Lomb's new AO Crystalens is a brand new single focus lens which has excellent contrast sensitivity and optics largely due to its improved aspheric design.  Additionally it is an accommodative lens that gives excellent near and far vision.
