Computer portals a new advance in patient care

August 27, 2010 @ 08:47 PM — by Lawrence Zweibel

Computer portals have become a new aid in patient care.  Patients often complain when entering busy offices because of long waiting times before they are able to see their doctor.  One big reason for this is the delay in filling out new or annual patient information forms.  A significant way to avoid this problem is to fill out these forms ahead of time right from the doctor's web site.  Interestingly more and more people have become computer savvy.  While 12-17 year olds are the most demographically active group  to use computers it's the 70 plus group that has been the most active in beginning computer usage from 2005 to 2008.  In a large ophthalmology practice it was shown that the largest group to avail themselves of physician portals was the 50-70 year group.

Aside from speeding visits at doctors offices other advantages to patients are the gathering of important information regarding ocular health.  Information is available about ocular anatomy, cataracts, diabetes.  Additionally visit summaries and health histories can now be transmitted electronically making it far easier for family members not in attendance at their relatives office visit to gain access to important information.  Imagine the benefit when helping an elderly parent with their treatment and medications.

At  Northshore Eye Care we are at the forefront of all medical care.  We encourage our patients to avail themselves of our modern web site and patients portals. Our Board Certified Ophthalmolgists offer the latest treatments for cataracts, glaucoma, lasik, diabetic care, as well as all other Opthalmic conditions.  We treat patients as far East as Riverhead, the Hamptons, Peconic, Shelter Island, Cutchogue, Mattituck, Aquebog, Laurel, Calverton, Manorville, the Moriches, Ridge, Middle Island, Farmingville, Ronkonkoma, Holbrook, Nesconset, Centereach, Smithtown, Coram, Port Jefferson, Huntington, Dix Hills, Medford, Commack, Kings Park, Northport, Melville, Jericho, Roslyn, Mineola, Garden City and many other areas on Long Island including New York City.
