Custom lasek...whats the difference from lasik
Laser vision correction is currently done in two ways at North Shore eye care in smithtown new york in long island. Ilasik or bladeless custom lasik is done 70 % of the time at our long island eye laser practice. In lasik, a thin flap is made in the superficial layers of the cornea using Intralase, a blade-free laser. This is the safest and most accurate way to make a flap in lasik. We then do custom lasik correction using a fingerprint of your unique vision using Customvue by visx. A wavescan reads your visual system and comes up with a perfect customized pattern for you. This automatically centers, automatically tracks and uses iris registration for your very best results.
For patients with thin corneas, irregular corneas or high prescriptions, lasek is sometimes a better procedure. There is no corneal flap in lasek and the corneal ablation is done right on the surface of the cornea. The healing time is a bit slower and there can be more discomfort, but for those people that are not good candidates for lasik, lasek may be a safe and effective alternative. In lasek, the final visual result is equal to lasik.
