Dr. Jeffrey Martin is giving Grand Rounds in Cataract Surgery at Winthrop University Hospital in Nassau County of Long Island. Dr. Martin is a recognized leader in cataract surgery in long island new york and he plans to speak about what makes North Shore eye care such a successful eye care practice in Smithtown New York. Dr. Martin plans to give his experience with modern cataract surgery including tips in technology and technique including wound construction, cataract removal technique, anesthesia preferences, and of course, intraocular lens implant choices. Recently, intraocular implants or IOLs have changed dramatically allowing patients to pay more for a premium or advanced technology implant.
Standard implants allow a patient to see in the distance after a cataract is removed. With multifocal or accommodating implant lenses, patients are able to see near and far and have less dependence or independence from glasses or contact lenses. These lenses work by using different focusing points or by the lens moving in the eye to increase depth of vision and reduce need for glasses for far and near. The board certified eye surgeons at North Shore eye care also use the toric intraocular implant that reduces or eliminates astigmatism further reducing the need for glasses.
In long island new york in suffolk and nassau counties, we see patients from smithtown, nesconset, saint james, kings park, islip, islandia, hauppauge, lake grove, bohemia, ronkonkoma, holtsville, holbrook, sayville, babylon, bay shore, commack, northport, centereach, selden, stony brook, setauket, port jefferson, and many other towns.
