At North Shore eye care in smithtown new york in long island, our board certified cataract surgeons are leaders in the field of cataract and cataract surgery.  We understand that every step of the process is very important.  From your first examination, you are treated by one of our three cataract experts.  This is important because a fair amount of planning goes into every step of cataract surgery including surgical planning.  Once cataract surgery is planned, we also know the importance of every surgical step.  Making a patient comfortable is done with IV sedation.  We do not needles around the eyes, stitches or even a postoperative patch.  Our small incision is done so that it seals itself.  We then prepare the cataract to be removed in the most careful approach available.  The cataract or defective lens is removed using computer controlled ultrasound or phacoemulsification.  After the cataract is removed, we use intraocular lens implants to restore vision.  Our patients use the best eye drops for healing and are able to see right away.

There are several implant or IOL choices and our long island eye care practice uses the best IOLs available.  We use multifocal and accommodating premium implants designed to reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses.  These lenses are the restor, rezoom, tecnis multifocal and the crystalens.  We also use the alcon toric to reduce or eliminate astigmatism.
