In cataract surgery, the cloudy crystalline lens of the eye is removed and a new intraocular lens implant or IOL is placed to restore good vision.  A cataract generally develops as we age and can be brought on faster due to certain medical conditions, medications or genetic factors.  At North Shore Eye Care in Smithtown New York in long island our three board certified cataract surgeons make the process as easy as possible for our patients to go through.

In cataract surgery, you can elect to have a standard implant which will give a patient good distance vision provided that there is no astigmatism.  These patients will need glasses for reading and near tasks.  You can also have a accommodating implant that moves slightly in the eye and gives patients near and far vision.  This is called the Crystalens.  There are multifocal implants like restor, rezoom, and tecnis multifocal that are based on a ring design for simultaneous near and far vision. We are also experts as Toric implants to reduce or eliminate astigmatism.

In long island new york in suffolk and nassau counties, we see patients from smithtown, nesconset, saint james, kings park, centereach, selden, coram, middle island, riverhead, ridge, stony brook, setauket, port jefferson, shoreham, wading river, miller place, mt sinai, rocky point, patchogue, medford, bellport, bayport, brookhaven, yaphank, shirley, mastic, moriches, calverton, manorville, east port, westhampton, east hampton, hampton bays, sag harbor, quogue, montauk, amagansett, jamesport, cutchogue, mattituck, southold, greenport, and many other towns.
