Laser energy can be used to reshape the main lens of the eye known as the cornea. The cornea which is the clear window in front of the eye overlying the pupil is only 1/2 of a millimeter thick. By applying precise energy to the eye using modern laser technology this lens can be reshaped to give excellent vision usually better than with glasses or contact lenses. Using space age technology light that is shined in the eye is analyzed by a computer. The wave front of light returning from the eye is unique to each individual and by treating these individual characteristics a more precise correction can be obtained.
The surgeons at North Shore Eye Care have greater than 10 years experience performing laser vision correction and have been involved with refractive surgery greater than 30 years since its inception. In addition to the laser that reshapes the eye we use a second laser known as the intralase that rapidly creates a corneal flap. While some surgeons still use blades for this part of the procedure we feel that the precision of lasers makes for a safer operation while at the same time allowing for a better visual correction.
We perform lasik on patients from the Hamptons, Riverhead , Greenport, Jamesport, Mattituck, Cutchogue, Patchogue, Seldon, Centereach, Stony Brook, Holbrook, Bay Shore, Smithtown, Kings Park, Northport, Huntington, Babylon, Dix Hills, Lindenhurst, Massepequa, Levittown, Syosset, Oyster Bay, Hicksville, and other areas in Nassau and Suffolk Counties including New York City.
