Cataract surgery with pseudoexfoliation

Cataract surgery helps over 1 million people each year see better.  A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye that happens as we age.  As we get older, the lens of our eye becomes hazy causing glare with oncoming headlights at night, glare with sunlight and blurred vision.  Nothing needs to be done about a cataract until the vision is affected to the point that it interferes with quality of life.  Our board certified cataract surgeons at North Shore eye care in smithtown new york specialize in all aspects of cataract surgery, from the routine to the complicated.  In cataract surgery, our long island patients benefit from the best in cataract surgery including cataract surgery with no needles, no stitches, and our patients do not even require an eye patch following cataract surgery.  Our eye doctors specialize in premium intraocular lens implants that are designed to reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses.  These lenses are the crystalens, restor, and tecnis multifocal along with the Alcon Acrysof Toric.  These special implant lenses are made to either reduce total dependence on glasses or to reduce or eliminate astigmatism for our long island patients

Some cataract surgery is more difficult due to difficulties or deficiency in the eye.  Pseudoexfoliation is a process in that the support of the lens to the wall of the eye is weakened.  There is a dandruff-like material deposited in the front of the eye that lets the eye surgeon know that this deficiency is present.  The cataract or defective lens of the eye is supported by connective tissue strings called zonules.  In pseudoexfoliation, these zonules are deficient in number or quality and therefore reduces safety in cataract surgery.  A cataract surgeon depends on lens support to complete cataract surgery safely.  Even with pseudoexfolation, most or our long patients benefit from our dedication to excellence and with the technology and techniques available today, we are able to get these cases done in routine fashion.  We use iris hooks and rings and are more gentle cataract removal technique in pseudoexfoliation cases which dramatically increases chances for success.

In long island new york in suffolk and nassau counties, we see patients from smithtown, nesconset, saint james, kings park, huntington, cold spring harbor, commack, northport, greenlawn, deer park, centerport, dix hills, melville, bay shore, babylon, sayville, lindenhurst, massapequa, merrick, rockville center, woodbury, syosset, bethpage, plainview, manhasset, jericho, muttontown, levittown, garden city, great neck, glen cove, hicksville, westbury, oyster bay, hempstead, franklin square, farmingdale,  new york city, manhattan, brooklyn, bronx, queens, and many other towns.
