Lasik and dry eye

Even with the best in lasik, ilasik, patients can still encounter dry eye following lasik.  When patients have dry eye prior to lasik from certain medications, hormonal conditons, or environmental factors, lasik can make it temporarily worse.  Even patients without dry eye can have some level of dry eye following lasik.  We treat dry eye aggressively with artificial tears, omega 3 fatty acids and restasis.  Being dry eye specialists helps our lasik practice to a degree.  Our patients get a thorough eye exam prior to lasik so that those patients with clinically dry eye can be treated or at times told that they are not good candidates for lasik.
