Cataract surgery has been a very successful outpatient procedure for years.  A cataract is a clouding of the natural crystalline lens of the eye.  As the lens of the eye becomes more cloudy with age, patients complain of glare with headlights at night, glare with sunlight and general blurred vision.  When the cataract get to the point that it is interfering with quality of life, our board certified cataract doctors and cataract surgeons suggest cataract surgery.  Cataract surgery is performed at our Long Island New York eye surgical center.  Our patients from Smithtown and surrounding towns are able to stay in their own comfortable clothes and receive IV sedation to relax.  Our eye doctors and eye surgeons use eye drops for anesthesia and rarely use eye patches or stitches.  There are usually no needles around the eyes and patients are able to return home the very same day.  When the cataract is removed, we replace the defective lens with an intr
